Pillar at Bethlehem from First Temple Period

A five ton pillar... A pillar that is located on private land (owned by a palestinian) at Bethlehem is getting widespread attention even though authorities in Israel were apparently trying to keep it a secret. The IAA is now trying to handle the delicate situation. It is believed to come from the First Temple period and it marks the site of ancient springs at Bethlehem--a tunnel which reaches down some 250 feet. The capital of the pillar is proto-aeolic, a style that dates back 2,800 years.
